While Hovick Design and Construction focuses primarily on planned renovation and restoration projects, we understand that Monterey Peninsula homeowners sometimes face urgent situations — storm damage, sudden structural concerns, or moisture intrusion that can't wait. Contact us directly if you're dealing with an active issue, and we'll do our best to assess your situation quickly and help you understand your options. For true after-hours emergencies, we'll let you know honestly whether we're the right resource or point you toward who is.
Yes. We offer free initial consultations and project estimates for homeowners throughout the Monterey Peninsula — Carmel, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Carmel Valley, and Monterey. During your consultation, Nick will walk through your space, discuss your goals and budget, and give you an honest preliminary picture of what your project will involve. Detailed written estimates follow after we've had a chance to assess the scope fully. There's no pressure and no sales pitch — just a real conversation about your home.
All Hovick Design and Construction projects come with a standard one-year workmanship warranty covering materials and labor. Beyond that, most of the products we specify — cabinetry, appliances, windows, roofing systems — carry manufacturer warranties of their own, which we document and pass along to you at project completion. For historic restoration work, where the interaction between old and new materials can produce unexpected outcomes, we discuss warranty terms specifically at the start of each project. We stand behind what we build.
Sustainable practices are built into how we work, not a certification we market separately. We routinely specify low-VOC paints and finishes, recycled-content materials, energy-efficient windows and insulation, and locally sourced lumber where available — all of which are especially relevant on the Monterey Peninsula, where proximity to protected coastal habitat makes environmental responsibility a real concern rather than a talking point. If your project has specific green building goals — LEED certification, CalGreen compliance, or particular product requirements — let us know upfront and we'll design the project around them.
We don't advertise a standard senior discount, but we do prioritize working with longtime Monterey Peninsula homeowners who have maintained and cared for older properties over many years. If you're on a fixed income and need help thinking through how to phase a project to make it more manageable financially, we're happy to have that conversation. Our goal is to make quality renovation work accessible to the homeowners who love these homes most — whatever that takes.
Historic home restoration is one of our core specialties. We work regularly on Craftsman cottages, Victorian homes, Comstock storybook houses, and other architecturally significant properties in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pacific Grove, and Old Monterey. We understand local historic preservation guidelines, work with period-appropriate materials and techniques, and approach older homes with the patience and respect Hovick Design and Construction | hovickdesign.com | Confidential Page 18 they require. If your property is on a local or state historic register, or simply located in a designated historic district, we know how to navigate the design review process without derailing your project timeline.
Yes — we manage the full ADU process from site evaluation through permit approval and final inspection. ADU permitting in Monterey County involves multiple agencies depending on your location: the City of Carmel-by-the-Sea, the City of Pacific Grove, the City of Monterey, or Monterey County for unincorporated areas including Carmel Valley. Each has its own process and timeline. We prepare and submit the required drawings and documentation, respond to plan check comments, and coordinate inspections. Homeowners we work with don't have to figure out the bureaucracy on their own.
Hovick Design and Construction serves the full Monterey Peninsula and surrounding Monterey County communities, including Carmel-by-the-Sea, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Carmel Valley, and the City of Monterey. We also take on select projects in neighboring communities when the project is a strong fit.
