Aging in. Cleaning house. Leaing a light footprint for out children.
We are aging.
One project of 9 or 10 months involved the merging to two households: Two generations of elders blending unexpectedly. Two widows. Two households.
In the beginning the drivers for home building were the marriage, the newbornes, the growing generation – accomodating the preceious gifts of life, love and hopes.
Now those hopes are realized – to whatever degree they are recognizable as the hopes we held. There may have been divorce, accidents, remarriage, rebirth, transformation, death of children – almost certainly of parents - business successes or failure, loss of heart, disillusionment, despair. Watch out for despair.
And here we are. Drawers full of stuff. Closets and garages no longer able to house coats or cars for all the old board games and tennis rackets. Bookshouse packed with LPs, 8 tracks, casettes and cds, the forgotten plots of innumerable books. And then there are the rooms of furniture, exercise equipment, paintings, and special Himalyan brasswork.
How to put your arms around all this stuff? Remembering that your ending is the beginning of a difficult transformation in your young, your friends.
This conversation will be part of the elder years. Call us.
